How does waterproof mascara work and how to apply it?

What kind of waterproof cosmetics do you happen to know? Definitely, the most popular ones are the destined for eye make-up. For example, eye shadows, eye pencils, eyeliners and mascaras. These products are resistant to tears, sweat, harsh weather conditions, such as snow or heat, and rubbing. How do these cosmetics really work? Generally speaking, these products contain way less water than the one without ‘waterproof’ inscription on the package. The fact, that such products do not run down the face is due to the special composition like polymers, plant oils, waxes or resin. These sort of substances cling either eyelashes or skin, adhere to it tightly, creating a kind of a water-tight layer composed out of pigments and care substances. When it comes to waterproof mascara, this kind of task is fulfilled by keratin or biotin, the aim of which is to nourish and stimulate eyelashes growth and regeneration.

Nevertheless, not all waterproof cosmetics are totally safe. Irritating especially may appear mascaras or eyeliners, because these products, in particular, tend to contain fixing substances. While purchasing a mascara that is resistant to water, draw your attention towards some basic information such as whether the cosmetic was dermatologically and ophthalmologically tested. Thanks to that data, you will be positive that the cosmetic is ideal also for people wearing contact lenses and those of sensitive eyes and eyelids.

Now, a few words concerning waterproof mascaras and eye shadows removal. In this case, the most effective are dual-action liquids or make-up removal lotions of thick consistency. Equally adequate may appear any baby oil. While performing eye make-up removal, do not rub fiercely your eyelashes because this kind of movement may result in eyelash falling out or your skin becoming irritated. All that should be done, soak a cotton pad with a make-up remover of your choice and press it gently to your eyelid. Wait for a moment till the cosmetics start melting. If necessary, repeat the procedure.

How does the application of waterproof cosmetic look like? During the application of any eye cosmetics, be careful to do not put the applicators into the eye. This can lead to irritations, eyes mist-over or redness. In case, such a situation happens, it is suggested to immediately rinse your eyes with warm water, and remove the cosmetic with a special lotion. When it comes to a waterproof make-up foundation, it should be warmed up on your palms first, than applied on the face.
